How to build a skin care collection…

How to build a skin care collection

Hi, guys, I’m Casey, the beauty buyer here at Zappos.com. Today we’re going to talk about how to build the perfect skin care collection. I know you’ve all had the same experience I have walking into a department store or the grocery store and seeing a thousand skin care products, and I barely even know what you should use. So today I’m here to give you some tips on the must-haves, and then the things that are good to have as well. The first must-have for everybody, including gentlemen, is a good cleanser. Bars of soap are actually not meant for your face. They will dry out your skin and help age you quicker. So make sure you find a cleanser specifically made for your face. Women, there’s a lot of them out there that have make-up removers included, those are really good to get because it helps you skip a step and it makes sure it gets rid of that mascara and makeup that could be left in the cracks of your face. The second must-have for everybody out there is a good eye cream. Eye creams help refine lines and to help remove dark circles. I don’t know if you know this, but your skin around your eyes are actually different from the skin on the rest of your face. They don’t have as many oil glands. So using the moisturizer you use for your face is actually bad for your eyes. The third must-have for everybody is a moisturizer. During the summer and the spring especially, make sure you have an SPF in it. Most moisturizers will tell you if they’re for dry skin, oily skin or combination. If you don’t think you have a problem with dryness or with oily you’re most likely a combination or normal skin. Things that are also really good to have are toners. Toners actually help balance your face and get your skin ready for that moisturizer. So after you wash your face make sure you use a toner before you move on to any next step. Ladies out there, you know when you start seeing those fine lines, age spots, severe dryness, or your makeup just doesn’t stay on, it might be time to add a serum to your collection. A serum is a fully concentrated product that you put on before you put on your moisturizer. Serums are all based on one specific need. So usually if you read the product information on the back of the box you can make sure you get the right one. Also, a lot of things come in sets or are merchandised together so you will know they go together for those products. Finally, the last thing you may need for your skin care collection is some special task products. There’s some great ones on the market for lip lines. So if you’re a smoker or if you just have aging around the lips, there’s a lot of great products that will target just that one specific problem. Also for fine lines and aging, acid peels or masks are also a great step in preventing these problems. Just add them to your routine. Some products are made to be daily, some are made to be used monthly or weekly, so just find out how much time you have in your schedule, and look for the product that fits your time schedule the best. I know this is a lot of options, so if you’re confused by it all, there’s a lot of products out there that will give you everything all in one kit. For example, Sans Age gives you your moisturizer, your cleanser, your toner, and your treatment mask all in one handy-dandy set. So again, just make sure you have a cleanser, a moisturizer and an eye cream. And then all the rest is just a bonus. Here’s to clear skin for you.

How to Tint Eyelashes

Posted on February 26th, 2010 by admin

Things you need for an eyelash tint:

Combinal Eyelash Tint Kit (black dye safe for eyelashes, brush applicator, oxidant, petri dish)
Vaseline
Q-Tips
Cotton Pads
Tissue
Bowl of cold water

I went to school for Esthetics at Blanche Macdonald, so I learned how to tint eyelashes professionally. However, they do sell eyelash tinting supplies in select stores and if you can get your hands on a home dyeing kit, you can tint at home. It is important to have someone else do it to you, as this is quite impossible to do so yourself.

It’s very important to have your clients eyes closed for the remainder of the eyelash tint to prevent irritation of the eyes (or even blindness).

To start, cut a circle makeup pad in half and coat one side of both pads with Vaseline. Lay the pads under each eye and make sure to have the bottom lashes on top of the pad so they can get dyed too. Next with a q-tip, apply Vaseline to the eyelid to prevent colour from being spread to unwanted areas.

Mix the dye with the oxidant to a creamy texture. Make sure it’s not runny as this will seep into the eye and cause discomfort. Once you have a perfectly creamy texture, add the dye to the lashes with a small makeup brush from root to tip. Cover all the eyelash hairs so they are rich in colour. Let the colour stand for 7-10 minutes.

When you are ready to take the dye off, get 2 tissues and with one motion wipe off both cotton pads. Then have your client sit up with their eyes closed. Soak and wring out 2 cotton pads and wipe the remainder of the tint off using a windshield wiper movement. Go from side to side and underneath back and forth until there is no colour left on the pad. To be safe give your client a damp cotton pad to remove any remainders of tint once more before you have them open their eyes.

When you know it is safe and there is no remaining colour have your client open their eyes. Hand them a mirror, and voila, they have beautiful dark lashes!
