Does anyone acctually know how to get rid of really dark circles under eyes?

Posted on October 30th, 2009 by admin

I suffer from really dark circles under my eyes and i’ve tried putting cucumber on my eyes every night, tried expensive creams and gels, a cold cloth over my eyes while i sleep. I make sure i get 8+ hours of sleep a night and always drink a lot of water. Nothing seems to help at all. Please help. and please don’t say get surgery. I’m too young to get surgery and don’t want it.

Well you cant really change your skin tone unless you use a makeup , but being you seem to have enough sleep I suggest a good multi vitamin it maybe as simple as your body missing some elements.

Well, if its genetic, then there may be no way to get rid of them. I knew someone who had really dark circles under his eyes. But since he was a guy, he never really cared. The only thing I could think of was cucumbers… but you already have that. Try combining creams and cucumbers. That’s how a facial works. Sorry I couldn’t be of much help. :[

Try putting ice under your eyes. Freezing some teabags and holding them under helps too. Try using an eye gel mask when you go to bed. It refreshes the skin.

Exfoliating and using scrubs will also help improve the blood circulation, stopping the dark veins forming underneath. Be sure to wash your face with cold water regularly as it wakes the eyes.

I’ve heard that what you can do to get rid of puffiness and circles under the eye is:
After using teabags, put them in the fridge. Before you go to bed that night, take the teabags and put one on each eye, making sure it covers the puffy/dark-circle area.

    DISCLAIMER!!!
I don’t know if this really works, I have not tried it, but I am sure it does not do any harm, it comes from a natural health magazine.

Hope it works, and good luck!

P.S.If not, you can always use make-up to cover them up! Some people do that.

It sounds like it might be genetic. :/ If that’s the case, than you should think about a coverup, or putting white eyeshadow under your bottom eyelid.

You have tried all the tricks, get some b12 vitamins, and take some extra Vitamin E. Everyones body works differently, and you might just be lacking in the E area. :)
In the morning, wash your face with cold water to help blood vessels constrict. Then, apply an eye cream that contains Retinol and vitamin K. Since it may take several months of daily use to see maximum results from the cream, you might want to consider using a little Preparation H to reduce the appearance of your dark circles in the meantime.

But these circles might also be a symptom of bigger, underlying issue. If you still can’t get rid of them, go see a dermatologist. It might be an early sign of Eczema.

Some months ago I bought Garnier’s Nutritionist Caffeine Eye roll-on for a similar reason. (Sometimes, when I don’t sleep enough at nights, ugly, deep circles appear around my eyes.) It contains caffeine and it’s said to be effective for problms like this. So, I tried this product and it worked quite well. It lessens the circles in a short time and they don’t seem so dark either.
So, caffeine can do you good. And, on the basis of this, the idea with the teabags above are also worth trying. The only thing you must be aware of is using teabags with black tea because only that contains caffeine in a larger amount.

Sometimes this is actually down to genetics. Although there are ways to minimalise the dark appearance. Wash your face with cold water twice a day. Use a good vitamin E eye cream and continue to sleep well and drink plenty of water.

I use cold herbal teabags such as peppermint and place them on my eyes for half an hour. This reduces the puffiness. You can also place two teaspoons (one for each eye) in the freezer each night before you go to bed, then in the morning place them under your eyes for a minute.

Does Dad or Mom have the dark circles, too?

"More sleep" is only a good answer for about half the population who have this problem. Unfortunately, genetics is a big part of the issue for the rest of us that have this problem.

But you can and should fight back, even if it’s genetics.

The darkness is actually a lot like a bruise, little capillaries in the skin that have burst and swelled. There’s two strategies to use, attacking the cause of the problem, and covering up the effects.

For "people who bruise easily" doctors recommend they increase the amounts of fruits and vegetables they eat. Not surprisingly, most "people who bruise easily" also have raccoon eyes. The advice to increase fruits and vegetables in your diet is something you really want to get on top of. Make a point to eat a lot more fruits and vegetables daily. You can do that by chugging a can of V8 juice every morning, and make a choice for orange juice whenever possible. Clear juices like apple juice really aren’t going to do much because they are mostly just water and sugar.

Increase the amount of water you drink and watch your salt intake. Too much salt at any age has a bad effect on your capillaries. Increase the amount of potassium in your diet (which goes along with increasing fruits and vegetables). Potassium balances out the effects of salt.

    Take a daily multivitamin.

Religiously use a nice strong but gentle sunscreen made for the face. If you have to have a tan on your face, get it out of a bottle; there’s plenty of excellent bronzers out there.

Elevate the head of your bed by a couple of inches by shoving books under the bedposts.

Do you have nasal allergies? Your eyes, nose, throat and ears are all interconnected. If you have been suffering with sneezing over the family cat, a prescription allergy medication may do wonders for your raccoon eyes as well. If you have sinus problems, put a hot compress or heating pad wrapped in a towel on your face daily to help everything drain.

Eye creams with vitamin K, which strengthens capillaries, has also been clinically shown to help dark eyes.

For cover-ups, there are dozens upon dozens of products for this very problem on the market. But remember, less is more.

If you’re really unsure how to apply a cover-up for raccoon eyes, try going to store like Sephora or a large department store and asking for assistance. Always look for the oldest woman behind the counter because she will probably have the best experience with makeup; stay away from teen girls who will gleefully make you up like Tammy Faye Baker.

(And don’t get talked into buying the latest beauty breakthrough from France that promises to cure everything from under-eye circles to monthly water weight gain…)
